What were the chances that I would hit the big 18 whilst in Germany? Well apparently quite realistic as that happened to be the case. On the 10th May I turned the big 18 and has quite a big contrast in how I spent the day. Unusually we spent the day at a Jewish concentration camp which made me realize how lucky I am to be alive and that a great deal of the Jews never made it to 18. It’s probably one of the most different ways someone could celebrate their 18th but in a way it could have been fate, and either way it has made me think a lot. Afterwards, we went to a Thai restaurant for the evening meal and I was stunned, shocked, embarrassed and in small fits of laughter when everyone started singing Happy Birthday and brought in a huge cream birthday cake. I literally had no idea that anything had been planned. Everyone also signed a card, which was really nice and I’ll keep that for a long time. It was an extremely different birthday but it was still a really good one! Thanks to everyone who was involved in making it SO RUDDY BRILLIANT! Rikki
