Berlin is literally like a world filled with architectural wonders. Today, we went from seeing a the Sony Centre building which is literally made completely of glass and completely stunning to see in reality, to buildings that have existed in Berlin for hundreds of years and still are able to amaze its visitors. Within the depths of the glass Sony Centre was a film museum, which we explored and saw and learnt some things we probably wouldn’t have been able to anywhere else. It brings it back to reality both the diversity of Berlin and he contrast of the kinds of buildings in the city but also the diversity of the media world and how much it has changed throughout time and compared to other countries in the world. And to think, we haven’t seen everything yet…

So far my visit to Berlin has been a great experience, one of my main interests is art, which can be found throughout the city merged within the streets and architecture. My initial idea of Berlin before I came here was completely different to how it is now; this has allowed me to learn a lot more about life in Berlin. Today we visited the Sony centre, the architecture of the building was fascinating, and even better the style of the building was art deco which is the topic I am studying in graphics at the moment, so I will be able to use photos of it within my research. One of my other interests happens to be food, which I have enjoyed so far this trip as I have been introduced to several new German dishes, and still many to come.  For my work experience I am working at a company called ‘eleven’ who provide anti- virus software for corporate companies, we have been assigned to design features for the homepage of their website. I’m really enjoying working there as its given me a insight to how it would be working in the graphic design area which is what I hope to do later in life. Only 5 days have gone, and looking forward to the 16 to come.

It has been a really amazing experience watching our students discover life outside of Ealing  within an educational/cultural setting.  Berlin is a really vibrant place -  especially today when the annual demonstrations between the Autonomes and the Authorities took place.  For me, the greatest highlight so far has been visiting the Deutsche Kinemathek Museum Für Film and Fernsehen because it houses a fantastic section on two of my heroes – the filmmaker Fritz Lang and the stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen. Oh and the compulsory two ice creams a day aren’t bad either.  Today is also apparently ‘Man Day’ when the local male population drink vast quantities of locally brewed bier and decorate their bicycles with branches from the surrounding trees? -  nice!
