Today I woke up at 7:30 and had a nice relaxing shower. Followed by a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast along with a nice juicy apple. Then I had a class learning about the history of the Berlin Wall. We then made a group decision on what topic our film will be about. We’ve decided to make a film about the Berlin Wall. After that we headed off to visit the longest remaining part of the Berlin Wall. It was an interesting experience to see the history along with the artwork on the wall. The artwork has just been redone a year ago and has been done by some well-known artists from around the world. The artwork really showed the emotion from all the lives lost from separating the West and East parts of Germany.
Then it was my favourite time, I was looking forward to lunch. We decided to go to a nice Vietnamese restaurant. I had beef with rice and a lot of salad, a nice healthy meal that kept me going.
We then went to visit a little bit of the original Berlin Wall. We traveled on the Uban to Bernauer Strasse station. The museum was a short walk up the road. The museum had a tower that we walked up and it gave us a better view of the land between the wall. This area was called the killing zone. It had sand and sharp barred wire. This gave us a real feeling of what it must have been like for people living in Germany at that time. After that we went to the exhibition at the museum. I made notes of the information as it could come in handy with our Berlin Wall film. Then we headed to the famous Television tower. This was a great experience as it had great views of the city. It was wonderful as I got to see the city from a different perspective. Then it was time to head to a big shopping centre in Alexanderplatz. It was good to have a little time to walk around just seeing if anything suited me, but I didn’t buy anything. After that it was time to have a short walk back to the train station at Kottbussertor and then home.
