Today has been a workday. We were washed and showered by eight, down for breakfast for 8:30, then the long commute/walk down the path to our workroom, to be at our workstations by 9:00AM. Phew I’m ready for my next coffee.
The graphics students continued with their leaflets and animations. Lea is getting up to speed with Flash by designing an animated cricket insect (the mascot of the accommodation complex here) Ana is working on a leaflet that is primarily aimed at teenagers. Fazi is doing some great work for a leaflet aimed at young children. She has drawn a map of the complex and will use it for a Flash interactive map for the web site too.
The video guys are up against it. They’ve got loads of work to do and not much time. They’ve got a lot of footage recorded, captured and now need to work quickly to edit and finish the project on time.
It will be great next year if we come on a similar trip; we’ve applied for the Media Division to buy 5 Apple Mac laptop computers through the college capital bids fund. I hope we’re successful in our bid as it will make doing projects like this much easier. We’ve brought college computers but you can’t access the Internet nor install any software on them. Luckily a couple of students have brought their own computers, but for the others they have to wait their turn to use an Internet enable laptop and we have to continually juggle the computers around the students depending on who needs what application when. It makes our workflow very messy and time consuming.
The Apple Mac laptops will be great as they’ve got Firewire ports for video and can run both Windows and Mac operating systems. It will give us maximum flexibility and greatly enhance our productivity next time around.
Tonight we’re off to the town youth club to integrate with the locals. Hopefully Nick and myself will blend in with ease. I imagine we will… game of table football anyone?
Regards
Doug
